---

Nikolaos Ploskas is an Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, University of Western Macedonia. He holds a Ph.D. (2014), M.Sc. (2009) and B.Sc. (2007) in Applied Informatics from the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece. Before his current appointment, he served the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, as a Postdoctoral Researcher (2015 - 2018). He has held short-term research visits at the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, (2018, 2019) and the Cyprus University of Technology, Limassol, Cyprus (2017). He is a Member of IEEE, INFORMS Computing Society, a Member of SIAG/CSE, a Member of SIAG/OPT, a Member of ACM SIGACT, a Member of ACM SIGHPC, a Member of EUROPT, a Member of EWG-DSS, and a Member of Hellenic Operational Research Society. He is currently serving in the Editorial Board of 3 scientific journals. He has served in the Organizing/Program Committee of 25 International Conferences. He has participated in several international and national research projects. In total, he co-authored 3 books, 25 journal publications, 97 conference presentations, and 12 chapters in books. He is also co-editor of 3 books and special issues. Dr. Ploskas received an honorary award from HELORS (Hellenic Operations Research Society) for the best doctoral dissertation in Operations Research (2014). He was awarded the best paper award of the Journal of Global Optimization (JoGO) for 2022 with his paper entitled “Review and comparison of algorithms and software for mixed-integer derivative-free optimization”. He also received the eighth annual excellence in research journal awards for the paper entitled "An interactive spatial Decision Support System enabling co-located collaboration using tangible user interfaces for the multiple capacitated facility location problem" by IGI Global. In addition, Dr. Ploskas has received an award for Research and Excellence from the University of Western Macedonia for the years 2019 and 2020. He has supervised 34 undergraduate students on their diploma theses and he is currently supervising 3 PhD students.
