In language – both locally and supra-locally – opposite forces operate: these forces, which lead to linguistic convergence, and the others, which lead to linguistic divergence, to a perpetual conflict of both interlocal and diachronic character. In this paper, an attempt is made to reflect on the current situation, in both local and global dimensions, as well as to reflect on the implications and challenges that arise, and some suggestions are made in relation to options for society and education.
Keywords: Linguistic diversity, linguistic convergence / divergence, multiliteracies.
