Then we examine its presence in the school books of the Greek obligatory education. We discover that very few letters are contained in these books and that children are mostly asked to write letters without having studied real letters and without having realized the impact they could have on the historical and social context in which they have occurred. Emphasis is placed on their form rather than on their content.
